Wedding photography timeline
What the “about time” it takes your photographer to get the shots you want. I created a very detailed Wedding Photography Timeline to showcase the types of photos generally requested as well as how long each type of image will take. The reason this is important is because a wedding is usually tightly scheduled. As a photographer, I will request a breakdown of the day with times so that I can pencil in photography without interrupting the flow of the day overall. If there are specific images desired that don’t fit the timeline, it’s very important to the couple can decide if they need to move times around to make it fit, or just not do them.
Tips to fit Family, Bridal & Couple shots in quickly on your wedding day.
- Right after the ceremony take Immediate Family Only Photos first. This makes your family feel special to be requested right away and it allows them to leave to the reception at a decent time to get a good seat and be comfortable. (Note: Also, they wont leave in time at all if you don’t do this. They will probably hang around with their cell phones out waiting and interrupting… so this is best all-around ha-ha. I have done this enough to know. Take their photos first then dismiss them to the reception hall.)
o Make a list of the family members and the “group shots” desired prior to the wedding day. This way your photographer can call out names, get everyone together quickly, efficiently and send them to the reception.
- Right after Immediate Family, take bridal party images. If you dismiss your party before their photos, you won’t get them back easily. So have them wait for the family photos and move them on as soon as the family is dismissed.
- Finally take a couple images. You’re freshly married and more likely than not, looking as fresh as you will for the rest of the day. Take some more intimate couple images later about sunset too but for sure get these first sets in.
These are generally the most important images taken within the day aside from the ceremony itself. Everything else is “If it’s really wanted or not”.
Wedding days are tightly scheduled, making it crucial to plan your photography timeline meticulously to capture all the desired moments seamlessly. As a photographer, I've created a detailed Wedding Photography Timeline highlighting the types of photos typically requested and their time requirements.
